When it is time for you to prepare to make the final move, there are some things that you must know before you take the big leap. We present some tips here for your travel abroad.

Checklist

Have you bought travel tickets (including connecting flight to regional airports, if required) and travel insurance?
Have you made all the necessary arrangements for any family, if they are accompanying you?
Have you obtained a letter from your doctor for any prescribed medicine you may need to take with you?
Have you ordered foreign currency and traveler's cheques for your immediate arrival expenses?
Have you checked whether your own government has restrictions on the amount of money you can take out of your country?
Have you taken out personal insurance?
Have you checked with Mentor Consultancy to find out what you must declare at customs?
Have you weighed your baggage to ensure that it is within your baggage allowance and is easily transportable for your onward journey?

What to Pack?

Passport

A valid passport along with your student visa. Please check the validity of your passport/visa, and remember the numbers and expiry date of both passport as well as visa.

Admission Letter

From the overseas institution. Please be sure to make adequate photocopies of the same.

COE Form

Copy of Enrollment form (COE form)/Acceptance Advice from (AA form) - which is your official fee receipt for your fees paid to the overseas educational institution.

Academic Transcripts

Plus as much information as possible on your previous study and employment. You will need them when you apply for a job. Please keep a set of notarised copies of all academic transcripts and certificates with your family in India.

Syllabus

It is required if you are applying for exemptions or credits from the University for similar studies undertaken previously. You will need to take maximum details of your previous study in India. Make sure it is attested by the HOD of your department.

Medical Records

Especially if you have been suffering from any illness. If you are currently ill, please take necessary medication with you along with the doctor's letter and prescription.

Formal Clothes

At least one formal suit is required. You have to wear them for college functions such as Annual Day, Graduation Day, etc. A few sets of formal attire is also necessary. This is in addition to the other casual clothes that you will be taking with you. White shirts/blouses and black pants/skirts is normally suggested for formal occasions.

Warm Clothes

The winter in Australia/New Zealand/UK can be very cold and drastically different from India. Hence you should take as many warm clothes such as jackets and cardigans with you. If possible, take a good blanket with you.

Shoes

You should take at least one pair each of leather shoes and sneakers.
