Business Information Systems

The Business Information Systems (BIS) course will furnish students with the technical skills they need to introduce, manage and improve information systems and knowledge management programmes within an organisation to increase its profitability. Students will look at how information systems benefit an organisation, how to assess a company’s IT needs and choose appropriate technologies and methods for setting up a system. The course further explore business, management and decision-making theory, recent developments in information systems, and the legal, regulatory, ethical and professional issues surrounding the sector such as consumer protection, privacy, and intellectual property, copyright and trademarks.

Business Information Systems (BIS) underpin everything a business does. In an information age, with a focus on information as a key business resource, BIS has emerged as the key enabler of innovation and operational efficiency by ensuring the right information is available to the right people at the right time. Students will also gain expertise on BIS strategy and e-commerce, information and knowledge management, business intelligence and decision making, and business process management and innovation.

There is currently a global shortage of workers skilled in BIS and salaries for graduates are relatively high, with professionals in demand. Employers are looking for people who understand both business and technology issues and have the skills and knowledge to help shape their organisation's strategy and planning. Universities all around the world have Business Information Systems courses both at Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
